The at-fault driver's insurer paid its $100,000 policy limit. The client's own insurance company, however, initially offered only a fraction of the underinsured motorist (UIM) benefits available under his auto and umbrella policies - despite his having paid premiums specifically for that protection. Following vigorous litigation, the insurance company agreed to pay an additional $1.1 million in UIM benefits.
The result brought the client's total recovery to $1.2 million after being seriously injured in a car accident in Ohio.
